Michele Moran - Nefertiti

I like to consider this book as part one in the two novel series about ancient Egypt. This is a story about how the crown prince Amunhotep to the throne of Egypt, hand picks Nefertiti to be his wife.The catch is that Nefertiti has to keep her husband in check politically and to preserve the current religious traditions. At that time Amunhotep is already married and his first wife is expecting a child. What they do not see is that the only way for Nefertiti to reach her future husband is through his religious interest in Aten, the god of the sun. In fact this is the connection between Akhanaten and his first wife. They read poetry to each other. Nefertiti takes the only chance to get close to her husband and together they establish the new monotheistic religion. This is the story of their rise to power and then eventual defeat. Most of the events are real historical facts, with minor fictional alterations. The story is told by Nefertiti's younger sister Mutnodjmet. She tells about her sister's struggles and political intrigues. Being her sisters's best friend she finds that she is torn between her duty to her sister and living the life that she wants. 


The first thing that I did after finishing this book, looked up Nefertiti and her family. I wanted to know what really happened. There are other historical novels about Nefertiti. I now want to read them as well.
