I really enjoyed listening to "The Red Queen" by Philippa Gregory. This historical novel takes place during the War of Roses and the struggle for the English Throne between houses of Lancaster and York. The story is written in the first person. Most of the time it is written from the point of view of a young woman at the time Margaret. She is a cousin to Henry VI. Despite wanting to go to a convent, she is told that her duty is to marry and give birth to sons. She is very fond of Joan of Arc, and wants to be called to service like Joan. This calling Margaret recognizes in the form of the quest to put her only son Henry VII to the thrown of England. It is a long and difficult journey. There are many turns and struggles. The description of England during this time through Margaret's eyes is very captivating. This book definitely wet my appetite for more Philipa's works.
